Words That I Like To Live By

Writer's picture: Lyndsie MooreLyndsie Moore

I like to read quotes, affirmations, and encouragements. I don’t know if that makes me shallow or a little “whatever.” It really makes me feel better! And everyone deserves to feel good. This helps me get out of a rut. I like most people deal with bouts of depression. So reading positive quotes, affirmations, and encouragements makes me feel better. And anything that makes you feel better during one of those moods, is a good coping mechanism; and if it works for you, then keep doing it. Use it to be your battle armor. Here are some that I like to keep in the back of mind.

“It’s time to stop apologizing for who are. It’s time to become who you were meant to be.” Rachel Hollis

This is one that I really take to heart. I feel like I don’t fit into the mold of my family. I really don’t fit in with any of them. I have neon orange, unkempt hair. I’m not blonde or blue eyed. I’m not thin. Like I don’t look like anyone in my family. I don’t share any of the same interests as them either; outside a fierce love of our family. It’s always awkward for me, because I never “fit in,” so now in my thirties, I am making it a point to unapologetically be myself. To wear my neon orange hair with pride. Wear clothes that I like even if it shows my tattoos. Share my interests, even if they might be weird. (True crime junkie here!) I am me. If I’m the weird sibling or cousin then so be it. And I am a believer in your vibe attracts your tribe. This has helped me be true to myself and attract real, true friends. Anyone who is meant to be in your life will be there; and they will love you even more for being yourself.

“Do something your future self will thank you for.” Unable to find the original source.

This is what I tell myself when I am procrastinating. I get in moods where I just don’t want to do stuff. I call it the “sads.” They’re not good and if I don’t get in them in check they will lead into long periods of depression. I do my best not to let that take over. So every day, even when I have the sads, I try to remember my dream. And that I’ll never reach my dream if I don’t move forward every single day; not just the days that I feel like it.

“Believe in your inner Beyoncé.” Unable to find the original source.

When I think of Beyoncé, I think of a glamorous, hard working queen. I watched the documentary Homecoming on Netflix last year. If you haven’t watched it, you really need to! Even if you aren’t really a fan of her music, it goes into how hard she worked to get ready for her appearance at 2018 Coachella. This was her first performance after giving birth to her twins. I think Queen B is the literal prototype of a “Goal Getter.” She has natural God given talent, but she works her butt off! When I tell myself this, I am reminding myself that I too, am a glamorous, hardworking queen in my own right. I have every right to chase my dream as she does. You do too!

“You have just as many hours in a day as Beyoncé” Unable to find the original source.

This quote piggybacks off the previous one. This is what I tell myself, when I feel like being lazy and not taking full advantage of all the hours in my day. Beyoncé is married, has three children (two of which are twins, that she breast fed), she records music, goes on tour, gives interviews, and has photo shoots. She also works out, practices her tour routines (alone and with musicians and dancers), makes time for herself, follows a strict diet, and who knows what else. If she can make sure she gets everything done that she needs to get done in a day, you can too. Beyoncé didn’t become the “Queen” by being mediocre, by putting things off until tomorrow, or just plain ol’ wishing it will happen. This reminds me that I have to put in the work. Make every day count.

“We’re all doing our best, Sis, and beating yourself up when you’re trying so hard isn’t going to help you do it better the next time.” Rachel Hollis

By now, I’m sure that you can tell that Rachel Hollis is also a QUEEN in my opinion. What she says is law. I love the way she lovingly but sternly tells it like it is in this quote. It’s almost like a bestie or sister giving you a good shake. Like “hey we all make mistakes or fail at things some times, you can’t let that take over your life.” No matter what you see on social media, no one is perfect. What a shock! No one is perfect! Can you believe it? Social media makes everything look better than they really are. It can also make you feel like you’re missing out. And I’ll be honest with you here. I am the queen of comparison. I always give others so much credit, and never give myself any. I always applaud others for even the smallest positive in their life, and always brush my own under the rug. I never ever give myself any credit. And in this quote, Rachel, reminds me to let it go, and just keep going.

These are some of the many, many quotes that get me hyped, and in the mood that I can slay and dragon that comes my way. They set me straight and on my way. They help me get sh*t done. I hope that you can find some encouragement from them. I hope they help you feel better and conquer your day. I would love to hear from you. Please send me the affirmations, quotes, and encouragements that you like and help you be the best boss bitch you can be!
