Buying Jeans During Covid

Writer's picture: Lyndsie MooreLyndsie Moore

I have to tell ya’ll a funny story that happened this past week. I sold a pair of my jeans and I needed to replace those. So I did what any good “bargain” shopper does for new jeans, head to Walmart. That’s usually the only place I can talk myself into buying myself new clothes; usually I prefer to shop the thrift store racks.

I was kid free and found myself leisurely browsing the new fall fashions racks. I finally decided on a pair I liked, but I wasn’t sure what size I needed. I’m not one to wear jeans often; I’m a leggings and joggers kinda girl! Since having kids I cannot judge the fit of things from just looking at clothes on the rack. I absolutely have to try everything on. I just started wearing women’s jeans after the birth of my 3 year old. That being said, I picked a pair of jeans from a juniors rack. So I really did not know what size, if any, would fit me. So I grabbed three pairs in different sizes and headed to the fitting rooms.

After longer than I’m proud of, I realized that the fitting rooms aren’t open because of covid. Ok, now what was I supposed to do? I wasn’t about to buy all three pair of pants, especially when it was very likely none of them would fit me correctly. So I walked around for a little bit just thinking about what I was going to do. I finally had an idea! Measure the jeans! I made my way to the sewing section to look for a tape measure. I found them and they came packaged with a plastic glued to a cardboard backing, so that you can’t use or steal them.

So, I thought for a few more minutes, because I was NOT buying three pair of jeans. Finally it hit me! I went over to the hardware section and found a small tape measure. After that, I went back over to the clothing section, so that I would be a little more hidden while I was being weird! Yes, I know, I was being weird! I held the jeans up to m body to see where they would hit on my body, so that I would know what parts of the jeans to measure. Then I measured the jeans!

Even after measuring the jeans, I was still very unsure if they would fit. What if they ran big, or small, or I measured wrong? I was not confident in my decisions at all. But when I got them home, I tried them on first thing. And to my surprise they actually fit! These are the best fitting jeans I’ve bought in years! In fact, they are the only real jeans I’ve bought in years usually I buy jeggings. These jeans are so cute and comfy!

From now on, I will be carrying a measuring tape in my bag when I intend on buying jeans, especially until fitting rooms are open again. I highly recommend this method for you too. It was a silly way to figure out if jeans fit or not; but hey, it worked! And hopefully my silly shopping shenanigans will keep you from having to be that weird lady in the clothing section of Walmart, or any clothing store for that matter!

Stay safe, stay rad, and wash your DANG hands!
