Today I wanted to focus on a lady that I am obsessed with from afar! She is so, so talented! Heidi Lipford of Heidi Lipford Photography is such a woman after my own heart! She radiates girl power! I have never seen or heard anything negative come out of her mouth or her platform. She is a business owner, a mom, a wife, and just a flat out unapologetic boss ass bit*h! Heidi and I went to the same college for a year or two and have a few mutual friends, so we see each other at events like weddings and baby showers! I conducted a little interview with her a week or so ago and here’s that interview!

How did you get started in photography? Did you expect your photography path to lead you into the community of empowerment and Boss Babes? So I’ve always been into photography. I got my first flip phone when I was 15 I believe and the selfie game has been strong ever since! Once my husband Eric and I welcomed our first child in 2016, I knew I didn’t want to go back to school. I had a rough battle with infertility due to endometriosis (a story for another time) so once we finally had our precious baby I never wanted to leave him! Yep, I’m a college dropout. I was a Vet Tech major at UTM and had one year left, BUT once I became a mom everything changed. The most important thing in my life was my baby boy. For the longest time a college degree was shoved down my throat. And while it can be SO important to have, at the end of the day I knew it wasn’t right for me at the time. I had some friends ask me to take pictures for them- the BIRTH of their daughter actually- and I borrowed my mom’s Canon t2i when the time came. I explained to them I had NO experience in the photography world but I would do my best. After the baby was born and they were settled at home, they asked me back to do newborn pictures for them. I brought my son with me and he just chilled while mama did her work. Driving home that day it hit me. I wanted to make this MY career. THIS was what I was born for. I started my photography page on FaceBook the next day and have hustled ever since then! I never once imagined my business would be this successful. I absolutely love being able to empower others! There are so many photographers who refuse to lift one another up. There’s enough room for us all. 🖤
What made you decide to start boudoir photography? It’s funny actually. Two women just approached me and asked if I did boudoir photography. I told them absolutely not! I was not interested at all and didn’t think I’d enjoy it. After some thought I decided to try it and after the first session I was HOOKED. Knowing that women trust me enough to guide them through a session that is so raw and vulnerable- it blows my mind. I always feel so honored.
What is your approach to each session? For a boudoir session I know going in that every woman is beautiful. Every body is unique and has a story to tell! As a mother of two I know how powerful our bodies are and I love showing other women the beauty in their own bodies!
As someone who has never done a boudoir shoot, what should a new client expect from a session with you? Well first off they should expect MIMOSAS. I love providing champagne at every session! It helps you relax more if that’s your thing. You can also expect some bomb hype music playing at all times. I want everyone who comes in to know I will pose and guide you the entire time. You can be awkward (I’m pretty awkward myself) and it doesn’t matter- I got you! Most women leave with huge smiles saying they had the best time!
What does a typical shoot entail for you as a photographer? I provide a variety of services. I shoot families, couples, babies, births, weddings and boudoir. With a family session you can expect lots of tickles and laughs! I love capturing those natural “in-between” moments. I pose you and use prompts a lot of times to help you loosen up and have fun! With children I act super silly and embarrass myself often but it’s all worth it in the end.
I am a member of your private boudoir Facebook group, I absolutely love the community you are creating. How do you seem so confident in this arena? How do you help the community in which you’ve created feel so confident? That’s so sweet thank you! I am confident in what I’m doing because I’ve put the work in. I’ve worked super hard and I quit comparing my work to others! I stopped trying to fit a certain mold and started doing what I wanted to do. Once you choose to believe in yourself, it’s life changing. I want every woman that’s in my community to know I am rooting for them and I am their ultimate hype girl.
How does leading a tribe of Boss Babes make you feel? I don’t consider myself leading anything honestly. I just feel like a huge cheerleader! I love building people up. I can’t believe this is my career. I am super blessed and super thankful for all of my amazing clients! A lot of my clients turn into family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
As you can see she is so humble and genuine and kind! But I’m also sure that you can see how she radiates positivity and girl power! I always feel my best self when I’m around her! She doesn’t just exclusively to boudoir portraits, as she stated, and I can honestly say she is truly talented in every session she does! I have not seen a single photo that she has taken that I do not absolutely love! Her work is seriously the best part of my Facebook feed. Check her out! Follow her everywhere! Book your photo sessions with her! You will be so happy with that choice! https://m.facebook.com/heidilipfordphoto/
