Social Distancing When You Already Work From Home

Writer's picture: Lyndsie MooreLyndsie Moore

Everyone on Earth knows by now that the coronavirus (Covid 19) has spread to all corners of the world. This has put us all in quarantine or at the very least we are encouraged to socially distance ourselves from others. It seems like the world has moved to working from home. Many of us have children at home with us while we are staying safe at home. I don’t know about you, but man it is HARD for me to be motivated to get my work tasks done with the kids home all day and all night with me.

I already worked from home before the outbreak; so you would think I’d be a pro at working from home from the start of all of this. But guess what! I’m not! Normally my oldest is in school, and I only have my youngest with me during the day. I schedule work things around, school time, doctor appointments for myself and the kids, and normal household tasks. And even with only one of the kids home with me all day I still nearly always need my husband’s help to divide and conquer.

So what we’ve been doing at our house is…NOTHING CONSISTENTLY! I bet you were expecting some wise words on how I magically do it all! Ha! Not even close; I’m a hot mess mom! Although I am trying to stay home as much as possible, homeschool, cook Instagram worthy meals (that I usually end up setting on fire), keep both kids entertained (and keep them from killing each other), and actually get some work done; not ALL of it is happening every single day! We’ve watched too much tv, played too many video games, and definitely not done the homeschool packet everyday. But ya know what we have done? Snuggled on the couch, played a ton of Uno games, and played out in the rain. This break from reality has really been ‘not that bad,’ once you think about it. We are settling into the reality that not everything is going to happen everyday. And ya know what? That’s fine! We are all safe and sane!

I hope this let’s you all know that you may not be getting it “all” done every day that you are home social distancing, and that’s ok! This is a weird time for everyone. Just do what you can, put off what can wait, and we’ll get through this the best we can! This will all be over some day and we can go back to “normal” (whatever that is) when it does. Until then, just make the best of this extra time at home. Stay home, stay safe, and wash your DANG hands!
