I’m a short woman, only 5’3. I don’t have a personal tailor either, as I’m sure that many of you don’t either. I’m not sure that being a tailor or seamstress is a very common career path anymore. So unless you are willing to seek one out, or learn how to make alterations yourself, you will need to have a few tricks up your sleep to make your clothes fit a little better.
One of my tricks is rolling my long sleeves up. I always roll my long sleeves up anywhere from an inch or two above my wrist or just above the elbows. If it is a sleeve I can’t really roll up (long sleeve t-shirt for instance), I just make sure they are pulled up onto my forearms. This makes my arms look longer.
Another trick I use is to roll my pants up the same way that I do my long sleeves. I most commonly wear skinny jeans as a matter of preference. This has the same eye tricking effect as well. It tricks your brain into thinking that your legs are longer than they actually are. This works with heels, flats, and sneakers all the same. I like to make sure there is an inch or two between the bottom of the pant leg fold and my shoes.
My last trick to appear taller is high waisted pants. It was an answered prayer that high waisted pants came back into style right after my oldest was born! The high waist is another way to trick the brain into thinking that the legs are longer than they are. This creates a longer line from the waist to the shoe, and this reads as “leg” in the brain.
These are my go to everyday wardrobe hacks for looking taller. At 33 I know I’m not actually going to be able to grow but I will be able to look a little taller and my clothes will look like they fit a little more like my tall friends! Please feel free to try these EASY tricks for a quick little growth spurt!
