Something I do to stay busy and bring in a little extra income as a stay at home mom is reselling. Reselling is taking things you have around your house, or when you buy used clothes, shoes, or home decor and list them for sale online, once the items sell, you ship them out. This is something that doesn’t have to have “set” hours, unless you want it to. It’s something that you can make work into your schedule instead of fitting your life into a work schedule, unless you want to.
This is the ultimate “side hustle” if you ask me. I am able to fully decide how busy or not busy I am. I am able to decide when I am in “mommy mode” and when I am in “mother hustler mode” each day. This gives me the freedom to make the decisions about how my day goes. Reselling gives me a sense of purpose outside of being a wife and mother. This may not be the case for everyone, but it is for me.
Here is what a typical day looks like for me. I’m going to use a typical school day since that’s our normal and we should still be in school. So I usually wake up at 6:30 and get the kids up, fed, and ready to leave. Then once my son is dropped off at school, my daughter and I come home. I make my own breakfast and coffee, and we spend a couple hours bonding and spending time together. This is our only time together, just us girls. Then my husband gets home from work and he showers and then gives my daughter a shower too. While they are in the shower I make lunch for us. And then we all sit down and eat lunch together. After lunch I start pulling, packing, and shipping orders. Once I get everything ready to go I usually stack everything up by the door, so that it’s ready to go when it’s time to pick up my son from school. Now that everything is packed up and ready to go I usually take photos of new merchandise for my shop. I try to take as many photos of items as I can at once. If I am not taking photos of new merchandise, I will sit down and share my closet, and do the best I can to get back to all shares that I can in the time that I have until I have to leave to pick up my son. This is also the time I respond to any emails, and comments, or messages on my inventory. By this point, it is time to get into the pick up line at my son’s school. I use my time sitting in the car line to share my closet again. Once I pick up my son we go straight to the post office and drop off my packages. Then we come home and while my son has some free time, I usually try to use this time to finish up any task that I had planned for the day but not finished for the day. Then it’s time to make dinner. We all sit down to dinner and eat as a family. After dinner we spend time together as a family, usually we decide what to do together. Bed time comes after family time. I use my time in bed before I go to sleep, relaxing, as a time to make sure I post to social media, if i hadn’t already for the day, I also share my closet for the last time of the day.
This is a normal day for me, and this is a laid back day. This is a day where I’m not filming for a video. If I am working on a project for YouTube, I make sure that I add filming into my day. Due to not having a lighting kit, I have to use daylight for filming, so if that’s the case, I make sure I film after lunch or after dinner (as daylight will allow). This will push photos to later, at night, or the next day.
The more consistent, and active I am, the more sales I have. This allows me to buy special, fun, treats for my kids, new “to me” clothes for myself and family, this is how we are able to have extra fun money for us to use as a family. I recommend this to everyone. It’s as easy or as difficult as you make it. It’s as profitable or unprofitable as you make it. There are no deadlines, no comparison to other people in the same field, and this is super fun! I view it as a game or collecting things. It feels like you get to “hunt” for the good stuff. And it’s addicting to see that “your item has sold.” If you’re looking for something to do over the summer, or a new hobby now that you’re stuck at home and not allowed to leave, this is what I want to recommend to you. Stay home, stay safe, and wash your dang hands!
