I love, love, love, podcasts. I listen to them almost all the time. I love that I can listen to them and still get things done. It feels like getting to read a book and talking to a friend all at the same time. And I can do this while living my life. The ones that I’m into are true crime, it’s really all I listen to. These are not the only podcasts that I listen to, but these are my favorites. I listen to all of these podcasts on the itunes podcast app.
My Favorite Murder by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark on the Exactly Right Network. This is the podcast that changed my life when it comes to listening to podcasts. I first heard of this podcast while watching a random Buzzfeed video, and someone in the video mentioned it in passing. Well, that peaked my curiosity and I had to check it out. Once I checked it out, I couldn’t stop listening. I’m obsessed with it. I have listened to ever episode up to date currently. I do go back and listen to them over and over again. I love their chit chat style. I love how they are genuinely friends and their whole style is very conversational. It’s a very light way to dip a toe into your true crime journey. SSDGM
Small Town Murder by James Pietragallo and Jimmie Whisman (I’m not sure if they are on a network or not; if they are I have been unable to find it. If I do come across if they are on a network, I will come back and edit this post.) This is another true crime/comedy podcast. These guys are also conversational and I appreciate that! James does a ton of research and can relay the information without sounding like a depressing, macabre robot. This is a longer listen and it’s perfect for my end of the day, relaxing before bed, after everyone else has gone to bed. I often go to sleep listening to this podcast. I have listened to all of their episodes up to date currently also.
Southern Fried True Crime by Erica Kelley. This is another one that I’m unsure if it is on a network or not. (I will update this if I find out different.) This is the newest podcast that I’m listening to. Erica has a soothing voice, and I love her cadence. This may be because she is a fellow Tennessean. I feel like we could be friends, if we should ever meet. The topic of Southern Fried True Crime, is pretty obviously true crime based in the south. She does incredible research, and does a very great job of delivering the perfect combination of facts, opinion, and some gold old southern sass! I’m not currently up to date on all of the episodes, but that is only because I just discovered this recently. This is my current bedtime go to.
Up and Vanished by Payne Lindsey of TenderfootTV. This is one I couldn’t get enough of during the first season. It was so enthralling. It was like watching a documentary but not. (That’s an odd description, I know. But once you listen to it, you will know exactly what I mean.) This is a podcast that I devoured as quickly as possible with the first two seasons. The first season dives into the case of missing person Tara Grinstead fro Ocilla, Georgia. Through Payne’s work and research and making new contacts with people involved, the Georgia Law Enforcement were able to not only close the cold case, but get convictions. This was incredible for someone who really likes the research process, but also loves when a case can be closed.
Last Podcast on the Left by Marcus Parks, Henry Zebrowski, and Ben Kissel on the Last Podcast Network, gets an honorable mention. I actually really love this podcast, but they are now on Spotify (which I don’t have) and no longer on the itunes podcast app. This is a round table discussion style podcast. They are all very funny guys. Marcus does incredible research, and Henry is the “house” expert on all things strange. Henry knows all about aliens, Alister Crowley, the occult, and serial killers; he’s also a great impressionist. Ben is a delightfully normal dude. He often says what I feel like most listeners are thinking during the episode. I really love when they deep dive into a series, they are always so good that I can’t stop checking for the newest one to come out. In fact just writing this recommendation makes me want to get Spotify just to get back to listen to Last Podcast on the Left.
