I recently began learning tarot. I have always been interested in it, but have been intimidated by it. There are a ton of cards, and so many spreads, and I had no idea where to start. I have had a secret board on Pinterest for probably a year or two, pinning different tips, tricks, and meanings. After lots of pinning, I felt that I was brave enough to try.
The way I started was I bought 2 oracle decks and 2 tarot decks. Once they came in, I took them out and looked at the gorgeous artwork. Honestly the artwork has seriously been one of the main things drawing me to tarot. I loooooove looking at them, and the more unique the better. I’ve always felt like you can tell a little bit about the reader by the art on their deck. It’s a little extension of their personality so to speak. I found that I did not connect with one of the oracle decks. I have decided to gift that particular deck to a friend of mine! I know that it will be well loved with her!
I have since taken to adding reading/learning the cards in my morning routine. I have been taking the cards outside on my porch with me in the mornings with my coffee or tea, (and kids,) and meditating with them. Depending on how I’m feeling I read either one card or a few. I take my time and look up their meanings and try to memorize them.
To help me memorize the meanings and interpretations I have been journaling them. I’m a person who has to write things down in order to memorize them! I will probably have to do this for a long time to be comfortable enough to read the cards without looking up the meanings. But it is fun learning something new!
A couple of my friends already know how to read tarot cards and I always shoot them a message when I’m not confident in a reading or if I’m unsure of the meanings. It super nice having someone to ask. Learning things on my own is cool but it’s nice to be able to share it with friends too!
Stay safe, stay rad, and wash your DANG hands!
