What do you need, I mean really need, to take killer photos for reselling online? Not much actually. And there are actually a couple of different ways to do it, you just need to find what works best for you. I use a very basic set up for my photos; you really don’t need a lot of expensive equipment.
What I use is:
Natural Lighting – I use a room with a huge window and a glass door. It’s my most well lit room with natural lighting.
White Bulletin Board Paper or White Poster Board – This is your background. Depending on the size of them items you’re selling a poster board will work just fine but I find that with clothing the bulletin board paper works better since it is longer. I also like the fact that I can just roll it up when I’m done taking photos and put it away, but you could very easily put poster board away as well.
An Office Lamp – The one I have has 3 small globes that you can move around and that helps brighten the natural light.
Daylight White Bulbs – I only use daylight white bulbs in my lamp. Pure white light is best.
Smart Phone – I take all my photos with my iPhone X; you could use a camera it’s just easier for me to edit my photos directly on the phone and it’s also much easier to upload your photos to your chosen platform(s) directly from your phone.
PicTapGo – Photo editing app. I use it to adjust the lighting and shadows in photos.
So now that you have all the things you need for a basic set up, what’s my process? I set up my shot, take my photos, edit (only if needed), and upload. That’s really simple right? Yes! Yes, it is. The way I take my photos is always in square mode, and centered. I always make sure to get photos of the front, back, and tags, as well as photos of any detailing or unique features, and any imperfections if they are present. Once I have the photos taken I always check to make sure that the lighting is like I want it and that there are no shadows (if that can be avoided). At this point, my photos should be perfect, and that means they are ready to upload to my reselling platforms.
This is another awesome way to take photos of products, or flatlays for Instagram, as well. I hope this helps you take awesome photos for reselling or your Instagram feed. I discovered this process through trial and error and this is my favorite/easiest method.
Stay rad, stay safe, and wash your DANG hands!
