Let’s be real here, I’m a work from home mom of two little kids, I rarely get alone time. I’m sure I’m not alone in that. I do love alone time; I’m such an introvert. But on the rare occasion that I do get some time alone to myself, I usually do the same thing every single time. I am a creature of habit.
I most often gather all my lotions and potions and grooming tools, and sometimes wine, and run to the bathroom and lock the door. I always fill a super hot bath with epsom salt infused with essential oils. I love eucalyptus, lavender, and Himalayan pink salt. I like to imagine my inner self as a sea witch. I have a soft spot for Ursula from The Little Mermaid. So this self care ritual really helps soothe this little inner self mentality. While in the tub I usually shave my legs and bathe obviously. I also usually have a YouTube video or podcast playing. I love learning new things. So I take this time to listen/watch things I wouldn’t watch in front of my children.
The other way I like to use alone time is napping. Yes, it’s boring, I know! I have lot of issues with fatigue and sleep due to insomnia, anxiety, and fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia makes my entire life feel like I’m extremely fatigued. I live in a constant state of exhaustion. So any opportunity to take a nap, I’m down! Naps are life!
In the even more rare occasion I get to leisurely leave my house kid free, I often do the same thing. I go to Dunkin’ Doughnuts and get a large iced coffee, and go to Target (yes, I know I’m basic.), Goodwill, or Books A Million and browse. These are my favorite places to go and do what we southerners call: piddle. (To piddle: waste time or spend time leisurely) Taking my time strolling up and down the aisles, recharges my battery so well, even if I don’t buy anything. I love to window shop. It makes me so happy!
These are the things I do most often when I get a few hours to myself! These are the things that refresh my soul the most! I feel so relaxed and myself after these activities. I encourage you to indulge in some self care. I often think of the saying “You can’t pour from an empty cup” and try to ignore the mom-guilt that tries to show it’s ugly head. You should do the same!
Stay safe, stay rad, and wash your DANG hands!
