Most of us have had our summer plans wrecked! Stupid Covid! And I obviously don’t know where you live; but I live in Tennessee, and it is HOT here! I’m not sure if this is a thing everywhere but there are no public pools open here. I actually called this earlier this year; along with the fact that kiddie pools would be in scarce supply.
After hunting all over the country for a kiddie pool, I finally found one after looking at every store in 3 different cities. (Side note: I ended up needing to buy a second pool after the 3 year old thought the kitty needed a swim! And this was 2 days after buying the first pool and I had to scour all the original places plus 5 more just to find a smaller replacement pool!) Once the pool situation was under control I had to go to Sam’s Club and get the two things I just couldn’t stop thinking about. I had to get a beach umbrella and a new lawn chair.
I could not wait to get home and get everything set up! The hubster got the air compressor and got the pool blown up. I got the beach umbrella out and screwed it down into the ground and made sure it was good and secure. I got my chair out and set it up underneath it. And ya’ll let me tell you, it has been the most amazing and peaceful set up. We set the pool up in the shade of one of our trees a couple of feet away from my chair, which is just out of the splash zone.
I have been trading reading time with my son for pool time. “X” minutes of reading equals that same number of minutes in the pool, or if he reads a chapter in a book he gets an hour. So the kids and I go out in the mornings before it gets unbearably hot and they enjoy the pool and get to play while I sit in what I call “my backyard beach” set up. I use this time to read my book or a magazine. This is an awesomely relaxing environment. I highly recommend everyone setting up a backyard beach get away. Seriously the only thing I think I’m missing is a hammock; and I am planning on getting one before the end of summer sometime. This has helped me “unplug” a little bit (aside from the fact that the book I’m reading is on my phone.) and enjoy nature a little bit.
This is seriously one of the best parts of living out in the country! I have enough room to make myself a mini pool/beach set up. The kids and I have seriously been living out there. It’s awesome having a peaceful place to spend our days; even if we can’t actually go to the beach, or pool, or anything else for that matter.
Stay safe, stay rad, and wash your DANG hands!
