Adhd makes the brain seek out new and novel things. We adhd’ers are always starting projects, and moving on to new things. It’s only as an adult that I realize that I have done this my entire life! There are only a few things that have been a constant throughout my life as far as interests go. I always thought this was a unique personality quirk of mine; turns out this is completely normal and common for people with adhd. Our brain’s way of seeking out the next serotonin fix.
I just recently realized a had quite a few irons in the fire. I suppose I’m just used to doing a bunch of things all at once. But when talking to a friend I took into account that I have more things going on than usual. I run two businesses from my home, have two small children, three dogs, two cats, and a husband. (And a partridge in a pear tree, ha!) This probably isn’t too abnormal for anyone; even without adhd. I just realized that within each of those areas in my life I have multiple projects going on all at once.
This realization caused me to pause and think over all the things I’m trying to do all at once, and notice the things that I’m neglecting by having so many things to do at once. It’s made me come to the conclusion that I need to slow down and get some more “follow through.” I don’t know if anyone else needs to hear this, but I do! I have some awesome projects that I’m working on for the future and if I actually want to get them accomplished and be able to release them, I need to give them the attention you guys deserve.
So, I’m here to give you other adhd’ers a motherly order: Slow down, get some “follow through,” and give your projects the attention they deserve. Let’s do awesome things the rest of this year and set next year up for greatness!
Stay safe, stay rad, and wash your DANG hands!
